Allsops secures MoD tender
After winning the award to produce four MoD naval landing pontoons, Allsops are currently taking the precision sheet metal application to new heights.
The main pontoon fabrications weigh in at a staggering 45 tonnes each, with 1 tonne of paint required to coat the combined length of 65 metres by 6 metre structure. This contract has been a wonderful challenge for the Allsops workforce, enabling them to apply a wealth of their sheet metal experience and knowledge in a new uncharted working arena. Each platform is decked out with robust horn cleats, bollards, naval furnishings and walkways.
The Ministry of Defence requested the pontoons be fabricated to aid the loading of their surface fleet in one of their naval dockyards. Due to the shallow depths of water, large vessels are unable to birth, so with the pontoons in place, they will allow smaller naval vessels to load up and replenish the large ships at sea.
Offering not only to supply the metal fabrications, Allsops are fully assembling the pontoons with anti slip deck grating, ballast medium, rubber fendering and consumables, allowing piece of mind for the end user, knowing that the entire package from Allsops once delivered and installed will be ready for immediate operation.
